I hope you enjoy this free/paid issue of the starter. I began this project because I simply wanted to publish something that was positive, an easy read, something to enable readers to begin their week on a positive note. This is a work-in-progress, however, and I will be working hard to make the starter better with each issue. It will come into your inbox at 8am, each Monday morning. Comments are always welcomed! Enjoy!
As a special bonus, in light of the eclipse in about a week, I would like to share with you a poem from my good friend, Bob Weber. The poem, “Eclipse,” is from his new book, Poems From the Rainbow’s Bow. After you read it, you won’t believe you read it, without howling! I’m just warning you!
Quote: “You can’t become who you are without pain, without trial. We grow when we are uncomfortable. And in a society that praises the status quo, we have to be careful we don’t miss our callings in life. If you’re playing it safe, it may be time to change.” Cole Bradburn Interview, 2012
You know that the price of life is death, that the price of love is loss, and still you watch the golden afternoon light fall on a face you love, knowing that the light will soon fade, knowing that the loving face too will one day fade to indifference or bone, and you love anyway — because life is transient but possible, because love alone bridges the impossible and the eternal. Love Anyway, The Marginalian-Maria Popova
Oprah Winfrey gives extraordinary advice on how to live your life. Follow this wisdom and you will be a better person. Absolutely fascinating motivational speech by one of the most influential woman, Oprah Winfrey. I hope you enjoy and learn a great lesson.
Shadow & Light Magazine Archives: Nathalie Seaver: I met Nathalie (image) at a recent Review Santa Fe, which is an event in which photography professionals, ranging from publishers to gallerists to curators, etc. I was immediately drawn into her fresh and compelling work. I can’t offer a better description of her work… than she does, “With the ‘Deconstructing Beauty’ series, I pursue a visual interpretation of Gershwin’s notion, to reveal the hidden enchantment and splendor of the natural world through the calming power of flowers. Beyond their fragile beauty, in my mind, flowers seem to also possess a magical, invisible. language.” Enjoy!
